Film adaptations of games are often underestimated. But the presence of Five Nights at Freddy's managed to break the 'video game movie curse' with fantastic results.
Airing on Halloween, Five Nights at Freddy's has a fairly high audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite its great success, this film, written by Scott Cawthon, Seth Cuddeback and Emma Tammi, still received criticism from film critics.
"This film is fun to watch for game fans, but for those new to the story this is a little less scary," wrote user Paul McGuire Grimes, quoted by Rotten Tomatoes.
Even so, this film directed by director Emma Tammi managed to break records even when the film was broadcast on the Peacock streaming application.
Box Office With Extraordinary Achievements
As of November 6, the rating of this film has an Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes of 88%.
Five Nights at Freddy's is now the 13th consecutive video game film released.
According to Deadline, in America alone, this film from the production house Blumhouse Production grossed $80 million, exceeding expectations and becoming a horror genre film in 2023.
Meanwhile, from all screenings worldwide, this film managed to pocket $131 million, after five days of screening.
Possibly, Blumhouse gave the green light for a sequel to the amusement park-keeping adventure Freddy Fazbear's Pizza coming after the success of the first film.
Synopsis of Five Nights at Freddy's
This film tells the story of Mike Schmidt's (Josh Hutscherson) decision to accept a job offer to look after Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, a theme park that has been closed for decades.
The only work Mike does is spending time in a room full of monitors. Even though there is terror from the playground mascot.
Until a terrible mystery continues to be revealed during these nights, presenting horrors that can still be witnessed by 13 year olds.
The nightmares that occur at night continue to occur, and the mysteries one by one begin to be revealed and explained in the film. Makes the audience have to hold their breath for a moment.
The terror of the game Five Nights At Freddy's was created by Scot Cawthon, trying to be reflected in this horror film. Introducing mascots named Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy as terror figures in this film.
Not only does it present a horror impression, this film also presents the closeness between Abby and Mike, brothers who are present throughout the story.
And how Mike protects his younger brother and stops the terror that continues to occur in this scary abandoned playground.
