New Star Wars Film Working, Appoints New Writer

As we know, the Skywalker Saga has ended in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. And after that, Lucasfilm started moving in a new direction by no longer making Skywalker stories. After four years of absence without a Star Wars film, fans are also looking forward to the arrival of the film. But soon, we seem to be presented with the new film.

Recently, Steven Knight was officially appointed as the new Star Wars screenwriter directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Steven Knight replaces longtime writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson who left the project. The film is expected to be Lucasfilm's first Star Wars film since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Now, reportedly, more information about the film, including the official title, will be announced at the Star Wars Celebration event in London, which will be held next April. For geeks who don't know, Steven Knight is a veteran writer who has worked on several major film scripts such as Dirty Pretty Things, Eastern Promises, Allied, and Locked Down.

Apart from writing film scripts, Knight has also written several major series scripts such as Peaky Blinders, See, and Rogue Heroes. With his long track record, of course, the quality of the manuscripts made by Knight is beyond doubt. It's certainly interesting to see the development of this film, after previously Lucasfilm canceled two Star Wars projects worked on by Patty Jenkins and Kevin Feige. It stated that both projects were no longer in active development.

Besides Star Wars Patty Jenkins and Kevin Feige, there is another Star Wars project that was developed by J.D. Dillard. But in 2022, Dillard confirmed that he was no longer developing any Star Wars projects with Lucasfilm. Various films from this franchise that are known to be actively developed by Lucasfilm (besides the film worked on by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy) are Taika Waititi and Shawn Levy's version of Star Wars.

Shawn Levy himself has committed that he will first direct Deadpool 3, before moving on to the world of Star Wars. Let's just wait, Geeks, for the latest news about this Star Wars project.
